Miran Thakrar was convicted of triple murder and sentenced to 42 years.
His brother Kev Thakrar was convicted of joint enterprise and sentenced to 35 years.
There is an appeal hearing before three Judges in the Court of Appeal starting on the 16th June. This is due to last 3 days. Both brothers have been told that they cannot appear in court for the appeal as they are both category A prisoners, and will take part via video link. Apparently the court only has the facility to view one video link at a time which makes one wonder how the video link will be done considering that the brothers are in 2 different prisons and the witness from Cyprus will be appearing via video link as well.
Kev and Miran are not dangerous prisoners.
While Miran agrees to being in the wrong place at the wrong time, Kev was never anywhere near the crime scene and was convicted of hearsay evidence statements brought into court by Cyprus police. The witnesses named on these statements have since told solicitors and given statements to the fact that the original statements were forgeries and that Cyprus police prevented them from taking part in a video link at the time of the trial.
The original trial was heard in St Albans crown court. The Judge continually made comments to influence the jury. It has been alleged that police leaked misinformation to newspapers who posted stories all over the web.
Kev has recently been involved in an incident at HMP Frankland. He was bullied, attacked, starved until he could not handle any more and it is alleged that he lashed out.
The prison service is trying to sweep everything under the carpet and falsify records etc. Due to this incident Kev is being kept in CSC in Woodhill after being badly beaten by staff at Frankland. His brother Miran is being held in segregation even though he had no involvement whatsoever in this incident as he was in the segregation unit in Frankland at the time. Miran has been moved from Frankland to Long Lartin and then to Full Sutton since the incident and fears that he will never be released from segregation.
Miran has never been in any trouble in the last 2 years apart from a trumped up hooch charge.
Kevan is a victim of the system. The way he has been treated within the prison system is the cause of the incident, which took place in March.
